The site
Kelly Tuttle, the cataloger for the Manuscripts of the Muslim World (MMW) project, created this site to accompany the project. It is meant to introduce novices to the basics of looking at Islamic manuscripts. Before coming to Penn to work on the MMW Project, Kelly completed a PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and taught Arabic for several years.
The MMW Project
The MMW Project is a CLIR-funded project hosted by the Schoenberg Institute for Manuscript Studies that cataloged and digitized Islamic manuscripts from The Free Library of Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania Libraries, including the Penn Museum and the Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies, and Columbia University Rare Book and Manuscript Library and The Burke Library at Union Theological Seminary.
Other repositories with Islamic manuscripts that have been digitized and catalogued for this project include items from the American Philosophical Society, Bryn Mawr College, Haverford College, The Library Company of Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
